I feel a rant coming on…

It’s been a while since I posted here. Work has been crazy, and I manage to get a lot of my thoughts out through twitter, so unfortunately the blog is suffering. But this morning I just had to vent, because there are so many things that are just ticking me off right now.

They just don’t make things the way they used to

First off, I am getting sick and tired of the shoddy work people put into their products. Our microwave just broke down for the second time in 3 years. Our fridge has had to be repaired once too. And I just had the motherboard replaced on this so-called state-of-the-art Dell XPS laptop I’m writing this on for the 4th time (that’s right, the 4th time) in less than 2 years. I’m also procrastinating on going into my car service center for a recall that needs to be performed on my VW (the 2nd one being performed on it). And don’t even get me started on the shitty AT&T cellphone service I have. A company (Apple) actually did something great with a product (the iPhone), and then it got paired with that crap? No wonder companies are going out of business and needing bailouts.

You know, my parents have appliances they bought back in the 70s that still work. They are older than me, and still freakin’ work. Is this just a way to keep the consumption engine moving, by forcing us to buy/replace things every few years? It is just wrong.

Our obsession with the banal

And would someone please get that stupid ‘Jon and Kate’ stuff off the news? IT ISN’T NEWS! I can’t even avoid it, because it is there in the headlines and in news crawls and on CNN. God, I wish I could get the BBC. What I wouldn’t give for a real news network. There are more important things happening in the world, like the revolution in Iran. Please, people! No wonder I am turning to Twitter for all my news.

Hypocrisy Everywhere

Oh, and would somebody just DoS FOX News already! I cannot stand the hypocrisy and venom spewing from that place. MSNBC, you ain’t far behind.
